The Taiwan Lantern Festival is held on the 15th day of the first lunar month each year. All over Taiwan, one can find large painted lanterns on display. These exhibitions draw local families and tourists alike. Some places also celebrate the holiday with sky lanterns. Small candles are lit in paper constructions before they float off into the night. In other parts of Taiwan, however, the Lantern Festival includes a bit more fire. In Miaoli, which has a large Hakka population, there is a special event called Bombing the Dragon. It takes a dragon dance and
adds a twist.

每年農曆第一個月的第十五天會慶祝元宵節。臺灣到處都可以看到大型的彩繪燈籠展覽。這些展覽同時吸引了當地家庭及遊客參觀。有些地方也會以天燈來慶祝這個節日。在天燈飄上夜空前,紙製結構裡的小蠟燭會先被點燃。然而在臺灣其他地區,元宵節含有更多火花。擁有大量客家人口的苗栗有一項名為「((火旁)注音為ㄅㄤˋ)龍」的特殊活動。這項活動為舞龍並在其中增添變化。
